I’ve been telling myself for days: it’s time to share a video of my famous homemade milk bread recipe. I’ve wanted to post more bread recipes on my YouTube channel, but I wanted to start with a very basic loaf anyone can make. This recipe is perfect for beginners — simple, forgiving, and reliably delicious. This Homemade Milk Bread is exactly that.
If you’ve never made bread before, start here. This recipe is approachable and achievable for anyone, regardless of experience. You can do it.

I’ve received so many photos and messages from readers who followed this recipe and succeeded — thank you! Seeing your results always makes my day.
A friend learned this bread from me a few weeks ago and now bakes it almost every week. One batch disappears so quickly she often doubles or triples the recipe. I recommend making extra loaves too; they vanish fast because they’re that good.
This bread is soft, milky, and fluffy. Enjoy it plain, use it for sandwiches, or serve it alongside a salad or soup.

Once you realize making bread at home isn’t complicated, you’ll want to bake more. Many commercial “healthy” breads contain dozens of ingredients, including preservatives and additives. At home you only need a handful of ingredients to make a truly tasty loaf.

I bake a lot of bread, but this milk bread is one of my favorites. Watch the video, gather your ingredients, and try it — you’ll be glad you did.

Homemade Milk Bread
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour (375g) + 1/4 cup more for rolling
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
- 1/4 cup evaporated milk (60 ml)
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons butter (melted)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Add the evaporated milk and melted butter, then whisk to combine. Stir in the flour and salt until a sticky dough forms.
- Generously flour your work surface and transfer the dough there. Sprinkle with more flour and knead gently, adding only enough flour to keep the dough manageable — too much flour will make the bread dense.
- Divide the dough into four equal pieces. Roll one piece into a rectangle about 10 inches wide. Starting at one short end, roll to the other end, tucking the edges under to form a loaf. Make four diagonal cuts across the top with a knife. Place the formed loaf on a greased or parchment-lined tray. Repeat with the remaining pieces. (See the video for a visual on shaping.)
- Place the loaves in a warm spot to rise. A quick way is to turn the oven on for 2 minutes, then switch it off and put the tray inside to rise. Let the loaves rise for about 1 hour, or until roughly doubled in size.
- Beat the egg and brush the loaves generously with the egg wash. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for about 15 minutes, or until the loaves are golden brown. Allow to cool slightly, then enjoy.
