Too often I’ve heard people confidently claim there are many paths to heaven: “Be sincere,” they say. “Follow whatever you believe in faithfully, and you’ll get there.” But is that true? Do all roads really lead to heaven?
Here is what Jesus says:
“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6 (NLT)
This verse is in the Bible for an important reason. Jesus declares He is the way. The difference between “the” and “a” matters. “The” is a definite article pointing to one specific route; “a” is indefinite and would imply one among many. If Jesus had said He is a way, that would suggest multiple equally valid paths. Instead, He says He is the way—one exclusive path to the Father.
If Jesus is the only way, then there is a single, specific route to God: Christ himself.
My pastor illustrated this simply: not every road leads to Chicago. You can’t take any highway or hop on any plane and expect to end up there. To reach Chicago, you must choose the correct route. In the same way, to reach heaven there is a specific path—Christ.
And that path is not wide or popular.
“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.” Matthew 7:13 (NLT)
Yes, the path Jesus describes is narrow. It often requires sacrifice—giving up comfort, reputation, or priorities to follow Him. It may bring ridicule from friends or family. In some cases it can even cost one’s life. Still, it is the true path. It is the only way to the Father.

So consider this: if you closed your eyes in death today, do you have a confident conviction that you would be with your Maker in heaven? Have you found peace with God?
“Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” Romans 10:13
If your answer is no, I invite you to call on the name of the Lord. Ask God to save you—because Jesus truly is the only way. This road is narrow, but it leads to life and is better than any other course you might take in this life.
