I'll start with the fact that I have had a LOT of Jamaican food. It's one of my favorite cuisines. I'm Haitian myself and from a very Caribbean community in NYC, so I eat a lot of Caribbean food in general. My aunt bought this on her way out of town & this was BY FAR the WORST Jamaican food I've ever had in my entire life. It was so bad I took a couple bites and threw it away. My aunt actually called me later to ask about it and we all agreed it was garbage. And on top of all that the portions were abominable for the hefty price. Which I guess for me didn't matter since my trash can only had so much space in it. Never ever ever again. Disgusting.
We booked a 2 pm reservation and but got to the restaurant early due to unpredictable traffic in here. The hostess was so amazing and she seated us early. We were seated in the front corner with an all round view of the whole restaurant. This restaurant was a whole vibe. Our server was awesome I wish I remembered her name. The drinks were so good: I had a Thick as Thieves and my husband this spicy pineapple drink. The food OMFG so so so so delicious. We started with the Ox Tail Mac and Cheese which I could have just eat this and been completely satisfied. I ordered the Stew Chicken plate and that too was so delicious. My husband ordered the Jerk Salmon plate and he loved it. He is very picky about his food and couldn’t get enough of it. We have definitely declared that this will be our regular date night spot. Not just for the food but also the atmosphere. It was such a vibe. The live DJ was so on point that she had all of thinking we was at a concert. Keep up the amazing job Abeautifullife?
The stew and curry chicken is amazing and falls apart in your mouth! As for positives, unfortunately that’s about it. I’ve been here 4 times and every time the service has been pretty bad. It takes forever to get seated. I’ve gotten a cocktail with a bottle cap at the bottom of the glass. And the last time I came, I got surprised by a $50 cocktail on my check. I got a cocktail with my last meal that apparently came out to $50. I was shocked. I once got an 18 year old scotch at the Mondrian and that was only $35. The price for this $50 cocktail was no where to be found. When I asked about the $50 cocktail on my check, they said I should’ve asked about the price before ordering. I admit, I assumed the price would be in line with the other things on the menu. I didn’t expect to be paying Beverly Hills prices in Skid Row. It really is unfortunate, this was one of my favorite spots and it even made me tear up with how good their stewed chicken was. The bad service and opaque pricing is just unacceptable though - I will never come back again.
Pros: good atmosphere, nice music, good drinks, nice service. Cons: the food is MID. Like it’s really not that good. It’s good enough to eat it and not complain but certainly not good enough for me to want to go back. Also extremely overpriced. They literally are selling watermelon for $18. That should be criminal. It’s literally “half a watermelon with lemon zest”. Like huh? lol I forgot to take a picture of everyone’s food because it was underwhelming. Together, we got the oxtail ragu, jerk salmon platter, oxtail mac and cheese, jerk wings, and the patty sampler.
Best Jamaican Restaurant ? ever. Great customer service. The owner was our waitress. She was the best and had 2 rounds of shots on her. She went above and beyond definitely will be back.
We came here during our trip to LA. The ambiance, food, and drinks were amazing. The food was so good that I didn’t even get a picture. What we ordered Appetizer - oxtail Mac n cheese Main Course - jerk chicken and oxtail combo plate Dessert - peach cobbler cheesecake Our waitress, Diamond, was so attentive and gave great suggestions on the food and drinks. Top tier customer service.
Love the vibe they got going. Very chill on a weekday night. Close at 10 when most of the restaurants in the area close at 8. Drinks were amazing, bartender especially S/O Symone!! Food was fantastic, i got the Rasta pasta w/ jerk chicken and some plantains on the side. I definitely want to try the whole menu damn near. Got a beef patty to go that did not disappoint. Jamaican food is one of the hardest foods to “authenticate”, I’m not even really qualified to give it the full stamp but from my experiences this spot is official fr.
Jerk chicken and Mac and cheese is great. Really good drinks (kinda pricy but good). Great staff and they take good care of you. Nice music all night too.
