Bavarian brews & eats on a shaded patio. Open-air beer garden offering German brews & Bavarian fare, plus sing-alongs & a costumed waitstaff.
This German style Bier Garten reflects the heritage of the Texas hill country north of San Antonio. They do have a nice list of imported German beers which were quite good. There are a few local Texas beers on tap as well. They also have bottled German beer as well. Margaritas are not what i would get here since they do not use agave tequilas. For some unknown reason one of the waitstaff was also pushing a dark lager while they had a nice dunkel on tap. Food is reflective of German theme with nice pretzels, wurst, schnitzel, etc. A little hard to find as it is tucked down by an artificial "river" but certainly separated from other tourist areas.
Great atmosphere and music. Food a bit pricey and though it is German it is catered for American tourists. Three people shared a $42 sample platter. Overpriced..ridiculous and you don't even get a full brat, they cut pieces a certain way to make it look like your getting more on the plate. Even the sides where so small. But it didn't taste bad. We ordered and an extra pretzel. The beer was great. Stay away from the currywurst. As a German girl that makes this all the time, the curry sauce is a bad version of ketchup and tastes nothing like the traditional German curry wurst. Pretty disgusting. Otherwise, great place to hang out. However, there is always room for improvement. I would have given them 3.5 stars. But google wouldnt allow that.
The food was good but if you're looking for authentic German then don't come here but the service was amazing even though they were busy. I couldn't figure out what beverage I wanted and my server brought me a flight with all the best German options and I had so much fun comparing them. I believe her name was Kelseay and she deserves a raise. She even took a picture of me with my Polaroid. I came by myself but I never felt lonely. This venue has hired some kind and genuine people who deserve raises so make sure you tip them well!
You have to try the Bavarian pretzels! Just know that the smaller one is big enough for 2 people. The sliders were the right size and were well spiced. The chicken sandwich was also quite good--everything was very fresh. We were there with a large group and found service to be solid. Our drinks were kept full, food was delivered to the right tables. This may be a restaurant on the Riverwalk, and therefore a potential tourist trap, but the food is good, and you'll be taken care of well. It's worth stopping in for a drink or meal.
Honestly, there is nothing German about this place. This is American food served in German style. It is overpriced and tastes very bland. Even sausages appeared to be from a serving pack from HEB. The only reason I am giving three stars to this place is for friendly service, live music, and big jug of beer for $8 flat fee. Other than that, they even charge your for a little squirt of mustard. There is seating outside with heaters which is perfect for the winter and inside too. They also serve beers to go. Not sure if we will be back again as I said earlier, there is nothing really German about this place. It’s kind of on the river walk so location is a plus.
Great vibe and food was delicious. Service was excellent and so were the drinks. We sat outside and it was not that cold. If it’s colder maybe inside would be better but then no view of action on the river. I’d return and sit outside.
Wonderful atmosphere, beer and food. The servers were friendly. My husband and I visited twice while on vacation. Both experiences we great! We were staying at the Hyatt located right next door so it was an easy walk. We will definitely return during our next visit to the city.
They have an impressive list of draft German beer. Franziskaner Hefeweisen on draft is absolute perfection. I was really impressed by the currywurst and the apple strudel cheesecake. I will be returning again for more when I am in town again. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
