Black Barrel Tavern - WEST LOOP

I don’t write a ton of restaurant reviews but when it’s this good pics and a review are needed. Came here last minute after plans fell through and it was so good!! The pricing is relatively cheap and what you’d expect at a bar. The food- phenomenal! Didn’t just taste like bar food. I have the chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had the prime rib sandwich. We both loved what we ordered. I’m very picky when it comes to chicken sandwiches and this has to be in my list of top three I’ve had in Chicago. I also love coleslaw and the coleslaw was very rich and creamy. The fries were also great as they weren’t salty and just right. My boyfriend said he really like the prime rib sandwich also. I’d absolutely recommend this place in a heartbeat and will be back

The food and staff were really great. The best part was the mashed potatoes, and the worse part was my boyfriend eating half of my cheesecake. Definitely a great place with a really nice atmosphere. Lots of televisions, high and low tables, and seatings for small groups as well as a date. As for the drinks, unfortunately I'm not a drinker, but there was quite a large selection to choose from - so there's no worries.

The atmosphere is very laid back. The food was very good. I have posted the pictures of what we ate. Everyone was happy and full when we left.

Not sure why the reviews are so high. Foodwise, maybe my worst lunch ever, 0 stars. My wife took one bite of the German potato soup and quit, incredibly salty and tiny portion. I got the fish and chips and attached a picture of the fish. Overcooked, dry, and terrible. Super disappointing. I hate to waste food, but I couldn't eat it. Even the side of fries we ordered were bad, burnt and shriveled. Surprised and sad because it was a rare lunch date. The server was nice though and comped the soup. We didn't asked for anything, but I wanted to leave this review because it would have helped me avoid this mistake.

Went twice in one day. Drinks were good. Food was also good. Had the poutine and it was delicious . The burrata was also good. I drank the house margarita with tajin rim. My husband had a Basil Hayden old fashioned and he like that as well.

Strong drinks like I like them. The food came out fast and delicious. Our original server left for the day, we ended the tab per her request. We never knew who replaced her. After she left, we ordered drinks at the table from 2 different people. The customer service definitely declined as the night went on.

Absolutely the most delish tres leches and everything else !!! I love black barrel for so many many reasons. Firstly, the people ! They’re family and very kind. Second, do NOT walk out of there without their tres leches… your palate will thank you! Their brunch is amazing!!!! Novel, delish and oh very creative butters to go with freshly baked bread! Mmmm Heaven ! Now top that with unlimited mimosas! Can this get any better ? Are you on your way there? When you do get there (hurry) meet George ( a beautiful soul) if he’s around and Jose Rivera (Magical Chef) ! I assure you it will be your next favorite restaurant ?

Got brunch here for restaurant week and I do not regret it! It was a great deal for two and the food was fantastic! I definitely recommend to anyone that’s looking for a fun brunch in the west loop area!
