Trendy, old-school Italian fine dining. Elegantly appointed, well-known restaurant focusing on sizable plates of Italian favorites.
What a great and inviting Italian restaurant! Food was great, ambience appropriate and service couldn't have been any better. Gladly and enthusiastically recommend this place for an authentic Italian dinner, and please allow them to recommend you what to have for dinner, we did so and had an incredible meal! The only comment I'd have about this place would be the size of the table, it was small for a party of 5 that we were so things were kind of tight around the table, but otherwise, it was almost perfect!
Wonderful dining experience! Attentive staff and excellent food. It may seem higher priced but you are served several starters when you are seated as a part of your meal and I cannot compliment the staff enough. Our dining experience was excellent and I highly recommend! Go hungry because they are very generous with portions. And did I say the staff was wonderful? It’s worth saying again! We love “Il Mulino” on 3rd St. between Thompson and Sullivan Streets near Greenwich Park in NYC.
Came here to celebrate a birthday and everything about our experience was worth it. We got seated right away at our times reservation. Starters came almost immediately (they serve a selection of bread and other small bites like tomato bruschetta) - we didn’t order these appetizers they just come with every table! It was our first time so all four of us had a hard time deciding what to get since it all look so good on the menu. Our Italian waiter helped us decide on 3 pastas to share (a tasting, if you will), then we ordered the daily specials - branding encrusted in salt, and osso bucco. Hard to say if the pastas were the best we’ve had in NYC but I can say that everything tasted great especially the main courses and dessert (Napoleon is a MUST)! The ricotta cake is equally delicious!
We had easily one of the best dinners here that I’ve ever had. The service was incredible, and the food was exquisite. The flavors and quality of the ingredients and homemade dishes were outstanding. They served us a large bread basket, filled with an assortment of breads, along with marinated vegetables, as well as a few other complimentary starters before we even ordered. The prices were also very reasonable for the level of service and amazing cuisine. Highly, highly recommended!
Incredible service and authentic Italian food. Very romantic date night spot.
I’ve been going to Il Mulino for 15 years. The West 3rd location is my favorite. The service is impeccable and spectacular and the food is outrageous. I ordered the veal Parmesan which is delicious, Caesar salad and the lobster pasta. Of course I had to have the Italian cheesecake for dessert. It’s a splurge but I really love Il Mulino so much!
This place is extremely low class. I don't know who they fooled/bribed to get a "fine dining" description because it's awful and I will never go back. The place is very small and I was sat at a larger round table. However, because they jammed it in in the corner, it didn't leave much room between my chair and the bar table where someone was seated and a two-top by the window. Through the course of the meal, a waiter trying to get by without saying a word to me just started pushing my chair in while I'm seated on it to squeeze by. A few minutes later, the manager suggested I move to the chair over as one of our party ended up leaving early. That made sense so I obliged. That other chair however is by the waiter station and not long passed before a waiter came by and said I was blocking him from accessing the drawer and asked me to move again. It was so simply ridiculous if they're not trying to jam all these cramped seats into one space, they wouldn't have this problem. How could you keep on asking a diner to move and move and move again? Then the rest of the night, the phone on that waiter station one foot away rang by my ear, constantly. "Fine dining" lol. To add insult to injury, the food was so bad. The caesar salad was tasteless. The lettuce was not crisp or cold, the dressing had no flavor, no anchovy or egg to speak of, just bland. The croutons seemed stale. The kitchen made us another one and they sent another tasteless bowl right out. The pastas are not that good. The steak is so average. The manager came out to say sorry his waiter had asked me to move again but he really did not make much of an effort. All this restaurant did was set up a table for a miserable dining experience. This is not it, guys. Dear god.
Incredible. Makes you feel like most restaurants have forgotten what great hospitality looks like. Cozy atmosphere, has an old-world fancy dining room vibe, with candles, roses, framed faded pictures, and staff dishing up big pasta plates at the front door. Within minutes of sitting down, we received an enormous basket of bread choices, then even more snack regalia in the form of hot, Parmesan garlic bread bites, parmigiano, salami, bruschetta, and flash fried zucchini with chili, which we munched on while the waiter reeled off a long list of specials. Service was extremely prompt, but also subtle (didn't even notice them removing our glasses). Enormous portions of food. Strong recommendation for the zabaglione with fresh berries for dessert. Our group of 4 were supremely impressed, can't wait to come back.
