Intimate Southern Italian bistro. Snug, bright restaurant featuring a seasonal Southern Italian menu & unique cocktails.
Small menu of three to four starters and three to four mains that changes daily depending on what ingredients are readily available. Have never once had a bad meal, and the desserts are also top notch. Stellar wine list as well, with a great selection of Italian and French wines.
Great service and lovely atmosphere. The cocktails and appetizers were the stars for us- the entrees felt a little lost in themselves. I had the steak and it was very well cooked, seasoned perfectly, and delicious. The monkfish was unexpected as it was a thin filet served with a large portion of cooked fennel. The dish was simply fine- but for the price and promise you expect something more. At the end of the day, king is a wonderful place to enjoy a nice meal with great service and a nice ambiance. The menu is small and changed frequently, worth returning.
My partner and I visited King for the first time this past weekend. Our experience started out well, getting worse as it went on and ended in disaster. Our cocktails at the bar were very, very tasty! Once we were seated, our server was lovely and attentive (although forgot our bread). We had one lovely small bite starter, a puff pastry with pumpkin style puree "Tarte a la Courge". The appetizers were okay at best, the orecchiette that was much too al dente for our taste, where it tastes like flour without much else in terms of flavor aside from a slightly pleasant bitter green. Poached ox-tongue was mildly interesting but was totally lost on the plate - the star ended up being perfectly boiled and seasoned potatoes, which is SO boring for a dish I was looking forward to. I thought the rabbit was cooked well but I did not like the rest of the flavors on the plate at all. There was a strange sweet-burnt flavour on the onions and vegetables that I couldn't pin. The Skate was mediocre and filled with bones (if that kind of thing turns you off - I cared more about the lack of flavor). Last but not least, and the worst of all - there was a special Tarte Tatin on the menu that we were very excited about. This was one of the worst desserts my partner and I have ever had. The texture was grainy and mushy with no evidence of fruit, it was massive, and worst of all, tasted like burned-irony-caramel, it was inedibly bitter and we had to send it back. Unfortunately, it's very unlikely that we'll return.
Fresh, seasonal and quality produce that are perfectly seasoned (not too salty like most restaurants in the city). I want some more of their butterscotch ice cream.
Excellent food. Loved all of it. Great beef entree. Great appetizers and desserts. Fair warning though, it’s not cheap. But worth the splurge
Great local spot. Food is on point and the service was top notch. Do not leave without ordering the penisse
Pros: - friendly and attentive staff - delicious food and creative menu - nice by-the-glass wine menu - that chocolate flourless cake dessert is amazing Cons: - couldn't really think of anything
Food was delicious (we literally ordered all but one thing on the entire menu). Staff both front and back of house was super knowledgeable and nice. Didn't have any cocktails from the bar but the wine selection is superb.
