Love the atmosphere; a sophisticated artsy vibe. My husband and I ate breakfast here. I had the shrimp eggs Benedict. It was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly, as well as the sauce. I also had a side of potatoes. My husband ordered the steak and eggs. It was all enough food that we weren’t hungry at lunch time. The tea and coffee came out in little carafes. Appreciate that since I was able to control the strength of the brew. I also ordered a mimosa and it came over on a little cart. What a fun experience!! We are also staying in the hotel and ordered the Waygu beef burger on room service from Landrace. Fries and burgers were excellent. So much food; worth $26. Very nice upscale atmosphere located at the base of the Thompson hotel. Food was very good overall. Scallops were tasty but too chewy. Chef special veggie broccoli was awesome. Duck and Lamb were out of season - odd?? Large wine list, good beers. Red Drum was delicious. Wait staff was excellent. Hotel looks lovely too.
During my recent visit to the Thompson hotel in San Antonio I enjoyed breakfast two of the mornings at the Landrace restaurant. Service was excellent, the food was delivered promptly and was absolutely delicious. The first morning I had steak and eggs with a small mixed green salad. The second day I had excellent smoked salmon Benedict with béarnaise sauce. I was seated at the restaurant near the window overlooking the SA Riverwalk. Absolutely beautiful on a crisp December morning! They also had a lovely patio area that would really be a great atmosphere for enjoying a meal.
Very nice ambiance. The food was not amazing and not terrible. I think it was a bit over priced. My burger was well done after I requested it medium. However, the staff was generous enough to discount the entire meal. Overall, enjoyable meal, just not the most delicious. Great view! The drink was delicious! We did not partake in any steaks so may have missed out on their best they gave to offer on the menu.
We hit the jackpot finding this place! Travelling with some coworkers and we’re given this place as a recommendation from our hotel. A little walk from the river walk but would definitely do again and again! Don’t ask what we ordered, we left it up to the server. Servers choice! Best thing we could do. Most people would hesitate and ask a lot of questions. Only question asked was any allergies? Then the attitude was - I got this! We started with some apps and smoked old fashions. Then the main course and desserts. We shared the plates amongst the group. We are entrees that I would have ever thought to order. It gives you a chance to try new things. AMAZING! Great Service! Friendly Staff!
Our plans to join family for thanksgiving got canceled on Wednesday so we had to scramble to find a place. My wife wanted some traditional thanksgiving food, we searched and she found the buffet at Landrace. The buffet included turkey, prime rib, cornbread stuffing, and a lot of other sides including some of the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. They were really more like delicious, creamy cheese fondue with some potatoes. The desserts were flakey, fluffy, and delicious as well. But what really gave the experience 5 stars was the service. From the moment we walked in and we’re greeted by the hostess the service was excellent. The chefs at the slicing table were friendly, the bus staff were on the spot, heck the person who my wife spoke to when confirming our reservations came out and talked to her to make sure our table was to our satisfaction. But it was our waiter John C that really shone and made this thanksgiving meal out a wonderful experience. John was friendly, professional, attentive without being obtrusive, helpful, and overall provided stellar service. We are looking forward to returning for a date night soon.
Edward served us - great service and conversation. Butter from bread service is excellent - worth the $5. Tartare was odd - lake looking meat, tasted ok but wouldn’t order again. Dry aged NY strip was good, burger meat was good but brioche was not. Grilled cabbage was funky but good - gotta like Korean flavors to enjoy. Truffle orzo was good, trout was probably my favorite dish. Carrot cake was amazing with butterscotch sauce - I didn’t understand the frosting. It seemed like cheap fake tasting frosting. A simple cream cheese frosting would pair better.
We ended up sitting at the bartop looking into the kitchen. Best location to see all the action and to be able to talk to the chefs and ask questions. We ended up getting a few appetizers and 1 entree because everything looked and smelled so good. We didn't see the braised ribs until after we ordered or we would have definitely tried those instead because they smelled Devine, and they come with grits and the waiters were heating up this wheel of cheese and when they served the ribs evidently they scrape all the melty cheese on top of the grits. It looked and smelled Devine! Everything we had was great. If you are looking for a good meal and interesting food, give Landrace a try! Honestly, my oldest is coming home from college for a weekend next month and I'm considering the 4 hour drive just so she can have the steak tartare!
