I finally solved my natural hair detangling problem — and it feels like pure magic. Coconut oil alone helped somewhat, but it wasn’t enough. After experimenting I combined coconut oil with olive oil and water to create a simple detangling spray that actually lets me comb through my hair with ease. The change was immediate: stubborn tangles gave way, and combing became painless. I was thrilled.
This homemade spray is great for natural hair and uses common kitchen ingredients. I plan to use it on my children’s hair when I remove braids, so I won’t have to buy commercial detanglers anymore. It’s economical and effective.
This detangling spray is made from just water, extra virgin coconut oil, and extra virgin olive oil.

Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil (extra virgin recommended)
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup warm water
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake thoroughly until blended. Spray the mixture onto the hair, then gently massage it in so the oils and water penetrate the strands. Start detangling with your fingers to loosen knots, then use a wide-tooth comb to work through remaining tangles, moving from the ends toward the roots.
Before each use, place the bottle in slightly hot water for about two minutes if the coconut oil has solidified. This softens the oil and makes shaking and application easier. Shake well before spraying.
This straightforward detangler saves time and money while treating hair gently. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me.
