Chain eatery for Filipino fried chicken. Filipino restaurant chain popular for its fried chicken served with banana ketchup.
First, I would like to thank my server Nancy! She was very amazing! The location of the restaurant is in a good place, next to many other Filipino food establishments. But unfortunately the food was not that good?
We stopped here for lunch to see how similar this location is to their Philippines locations. While obviously not the same, it was still a good experience with yummy food for lunch! Their whole fried chicken is definitely a good deal besides being tasty. We noticed they have a lot of take-out orders besides being busy with dine-in so they are popular. It is definitely a place we would patronize again!
Food is great. I always love the taro leaf dish - it was pretty large too (family style) I am glad they have a tofu dish, even though it was kinda small and very basic. The dessert was delicious. Many people got the Halo Halo, and that looked good too. The service was slow though, seems like our server is way too busy or forgetful, maybe a little bit of both. It's a little on the pricey side. It was ~$50 for the both of us. We can definitely get the same/better food next door for half the price.
First eating at Max since it opened in Houston. I’ve been to one in the Philippines but was not impressed by the food. I came here with my friend and her husband. I ordered the binagoongan fried rice, lechon kawali sisig and calamansi juice. She ordered the crab fried rice, half max chicken, pancit canton and buko juice. The binagoongan fried rice needs more bagoong and season. It was very bland. The Lechon kawali sisig had too much soy sauce. The calamansi juice was too sweet for me. I asked for another glass of ice and poured it there and added more water. The crab fried rice needs more seasoning. The max chicken is good if you eat it with ketchup, otherwise, it’s very bland. The best dish was the pancit canton. The restaurant is very clean with a nice interior.
If you’re looking for a good introduction to Filipino food, Max’s Restaurant is a great place to dine at. All the food is delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. They’re all classic Filipino dishes. The service is good, and the staff are friendly. Some of the dishes that my wife and I love here are Max’s Fried Chicken, Max’s Crispy Pata, Sisig, Pancit, Kare-Kare, & Lumpiang. Favorite desserts are Halo Halo and Leche Flan.
Super excited to visit this restaurant. They recently opened their doors in Houston so I know I have to try it when I’m in town. This place was super busy at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. We got fried chicken, lechon kawali, halo halo, pork skewers and laing. I enjoyed the chicken the most! It was flavorful inside and out and it wasn’t dry at all. It reminds me of my childhood memory of eating a Max’s with my family in Manila. Our wait staff JR was amazing he was very attentive to our needs. Despite the restaurant’s traffic, these wait staffs manage to do some singing for people celebrating their birthdays at the restaurant. What a great touch! If want home cooked Filipino food this is a place to try.
My family wanted to eat something with rice, and I remembered that there was a Max’s in Houston! They’ve only ever been to the locations in CA, but we were pretty much familiar with the menu. To start, we got the Max’s Teasers which was a sampler plate of Lumpia, Calamari, and Chicharon Bulaklak. The Lumpia could have been more crispier, as well as the Bulaklak, we took the leftovers home and put it in the air fryer. The calamari was decent. We got a plethora of dishes that we all shared. My brother got the Beef Sinigang, the brother could be a little more sour in my opinion, and the beef was okay… not my favorite. My brother liked it, hence why he ordered it. My husband mainly wanted the Pancit Palabok, which he devoured! It just needed a little more lemon, but still really good. My mom ordered Pancit Guisado, and she kept going back for more. My aunt wanted Pinakbet, but she said the okra and the long beans were still hard and they were not cooked all the way… she didn’t like it. They also ordered Daing na Bangus which is the marinated milkfish, they both didn’t like it and said you couldn’t really taste the marinade. I, on the other hand thought it was good. I have no complaints about it. My husband liked it as well. I mainly wanted the Lechon Kawali Sisig, I would brag to my husband that this is one of the best sisigs I’ve had at any Filipino restaurant. It did not disappoint! Everyone at the table loved it, and kept going back for more. I would recommend this dish to anyone that comes here. We all ordered white rice as well as garlic rice. Nothing to complain about either. My aunt wanted Halo Halo, the waiter and my mom warned her it was huge, and when it came out she was taken aback! I shared a little with her, it was good, but what threw me off was that they used vanilla ice cream instead of ube ice cream. It didn’t give it the same taste that I’m used to. Maybe they didn’t have any ube, and that’s okay. Love Max’s and definitely recommend this place!
True to filipino taste. Sobrang masarap! Great location since it’s nearby a lot more filipino areas. A little on the pricey side but large portion sizes. My favorite out of everything we had ordered was the crispy pata, it was so crunchy and so soft at the same time, definitely recommend. Servers are always very nice and attentive.
