American eatery using house produce. American restaurant by a chef-farmer team growing many ingredients in its backyard garden.
First thing that gets you is just how nice the place looks, the atmosphere is absolutely great. We set outside and enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. We ordered most the dishes on the menu and every plate was better then the last an absolutely amazing dinner
We had a good time here but I will say the food is like sophisticated bar food so a little pricey for what it is. It’s delicious, but everything is VERY heavy. Mostly fried food on the menu would’ve cared for a couple more “fresher” options to balance that out. Even the veggie dish is fried. I think this place is more of a wine bar than a restaurant. The food was very tasty though I just didn’t feel great afterwards ? The lobster crackers were a highlight and the waiter explained how they were made which was very interesting. Would come back for the wine and when I’m not so hungry.
We came here for a private dinner and loved it. The private room has beautiful wallpaper and the ambience of a palatial library. The food was delicious and wonderfully presented; each a work of art. The staff was terrific — attentive, knowledgable and sincere. We had a great time. If we didn’t live in faraway Manhattan, we’d be back more often.
came here for lunch prix fixe with 6 people and it was a wonderful experience, although I had slightly higher expectations going in. the food was fresh and high quality, but the portion sizes were very small. we left feeling pretty hungry. however, for such a creative menu and fun experience, I’d say it’s worth it to come once. olmsted also does a fantastic job accommodating for food allergies and dietary restrictions (although their vegan/gluten free bread option was severely disappointing, every other substitution was great). our favorites were the soup and the carrot cake. they also have very fun and delicious mocktails and cocktails!
Average price for the style, large portions, great taste. Would come again. Tried the beef appetizer, think it was a beef tartare with fish sauce and cashew. Flavorful and larger than expected. Also had the duck, which has really intense flavours but balanced with great texture. Might have gone well with something sour to drink or on the side as well.
The atmosphere, the dishes, the service from Joe, all were utterly fantastic! The place is absolutely beautiful, everyone is so organized and hustles, they describe the food as they set it on the table, they are so very attentive and caring. And, the food, all of it, was divine! I highly recommend the scallops/shrimp rolls and the duck. Spaetzle with crab was also fabulous! Thank you for having us and thanks to Joe for being so great and attentive!
Had a group of 6 and we ordered everything on the menu to share. The server is great at recommending how much food to order for the group, answering questions, and taking care of you. The back garden is where you should sit when the weather is nice
Great accommodations and a well organized restaurant. We ended up at the bar for a hour because without reservations, that’s all you going to get. It’s plenty of time for a quick drink and a few dishes. A quality and well made cocktails is definitely hard to fine. Olmsted bartender knows their drinks and crafts some of the best drinks in the area. We tried the honeysuckle and spiced pear on the menu. Apparently these are seasonal drinks and can’t wait for their fall creation. I love the exterior and interior decor. It’s small inside but they still feel spacious with the way things are. I haven’t get a chance to see the backyard and maybe next time with a reservation. I am honestly not a fan of the food. It’s too creative for me.
