Upscale dining in a Tuscan villa setting. Soft-lit Italian spot features several dining areas, banquet rooms & sometimes a singer at the bar.
Popi’s provided a quality, scrumptious Valentine’s Day menu, from beginning to end, with the bonus of a live singer who crooned popular love songs from the 1960s through the 2000s. Quality linens, lighting & design added to the romantic ambience.
GEM! Place was lively with a party, lot was almost to capacity, entertainment was entertaining. That was the draw, BUT the food and service in the midst of all the liveliness was GOOD! Anthony our server, attentive, personable and knew menu well. My sweet potato soup was exceptional. Cucumber Martini, potent. Focaccia with ricotta and apples appetizer, a surprising twist. And, my main course of crab cakes with a mustard sauce, (I think)and roasted veggies(potatoes, carrots, Brussel sprouts) was really good without being overly done up. Topped off with a good crème brûlée. It was a good dining experience start to finish. Encrusted Fluke fish, with veggies, and Ravioli were enjoyed just as much by my table mates, and a hazelnut dessert and the chocolate cake, ALL fawned over and enjoyed. Meal for 3 with 2 cocktails and one mocktail. Was under $200.
As many times as I have been to South Philly, I never knew about this place. I couldn't believe it. Let's start with the outside. It's in the neighborhood but there is abundant parking - with a parking lot on the side. Outdoor seating is available. The inside is outstanding. Spacious capacity nice temperature. I was with a group after a Phillies game and we were seated right away. Our server was Claudia and she was incredible and perfect. She knew the specials and the menu back to front. Incredibly polite and efficient with a dinner crowd to manage. Can't say enough good things about the service. Top notch A+ . Then there is the food menu. In a word -Amazing! I had the Caprese and Fruti Di Mare. I highly recommend but everything on the menu is a can't go wrong. Authentic Italian cuisine that is a can't miss hidden gem in South Philadelphia. Also easy access to sports complex and the Philadelphia International Airport. Enjoy and Thank me later.
Popi's is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always great and so is the service. Anthony took care of us on our most recent visit and he was outstanding. The atmosphere is always so nice and this time, the restaurant was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Popi's is reasonably priced as well. If you're looking for an excellent Italian restaurant with a large menu and plenty of specials from which to choose, I absolutely recommend Popi's!
I came here years before and wanted to take my husband here for his birthday. I made reservations on OpenTable and wrote "celebrating husband's birthday" in the comments. The restaurant was not very busy but they seated us in a big cluster in the middle of the restaurant which was just very loud to be around. Our waitress was just blah, not very friendly or talkative. Just basically all business. I got the gnocchi which was delicious. My husband got the quinoa bowl that was dry and just needed some sort of dressing to liven it up. We ordered our desserts, but nothing was 'special' was done for my husband's birthday. Maybe I should have been more specific about putting a candle in his dessert or something? But at other restaurants celebrating a birthday or anniversary was enough for some extra treatment on the decoration of the dessert. The restaurant was dead at prime time on a Friday night. It's just tells me it's for a much older crowd now and not a place we will probably go back to.
Delicious food, great service, and clean restaurant!
Disappointing other than the crab cake special. After reading other reviews, I’m convinced the kitchen staff’s inconsistency must be to blame. Service and ambience (although dated) were good/clean with the live singer being a nice touch. My fiancé thought the clams casino was good, but the smell coming from the burnt shells kinda ruined them for me. The shrimp Dijon missed the mark as they didn’t seemed stuffed with any horseradish, the bacon was over cooked/dry and the Dijon dipping sauce was very bland / mostly mayo. The food taste/quality just were a big miss with the Lobster Cioppino (overcooked lobster needed a lot of prying to remove from shell) being mostly flavorless. $142 ($170 after tip) for 1 cocktail, 2 apps, & 2 entrees that don’t even include salads seems like a ripoff being that Philadium’s down the street where we could have enjoyed even more food and drink for significantly less cost. Hopefully they can sort out their kitchen for future patrons, but it’s a one and done for us.
A truly wonderful classy Italian restaurant. Great food and service. True care and desire to make one not only fully satisfied, but wanting to return.
