Two things has tarnished my opinion of AMTRAK. The first is the rude ladies who work the counter at Amtrack in San Antonio Texas. Second, is Amtrak used to have a separate Shipping Dept., along with the regular people transport. That shipping department, allowed Me to travel for the price of airfare, BUT, I could also bring as much as I needed in addition to My carry-on because of shipping. I shipped 4 bikes and 6 more large boxes for $300. That is the best deal that USED to be available by taking AMTRAK. Problem is, they have discontinued Shipping. BUMMER. Now I can fly for same cost, but no shipping. Because Amtrak takes Two Days where a plane takes a few hours, it’s now hard to justify taking such a slow transport - that offers no additional shipping benefit. Now, let me tell you about the rude ladies… The last time I left San Antonio to L.A., these ladies wouldn’t check my boxes because they were as little as .5 pounds overweight. I didn’t have a scale to get the exact weights. I was very close. But even that just .5 pounds over, they wouldn’t make an exception. Instead, they forced me to cut open and repack the boxes, over and over, until they were perfectly under 50lbs… Telling Me the train was 30 hour out, but, neglected to mention, my bags had to be checked by certain time before then… I was held up in the lobby with all the 1/2 lb here, there thing, without knowing my window of time to check my boxes had come and gone. So, although I as there early, because my boxes we .5lb for one, 1.5lb for other, etc…while I was forced to cut my boxes open and re distribute the weight, in the mean time I wasnt told that I was missing the window of time to check my things before the train arrived - So I missed my train as I stood there looking at it come and go - sweating, frustrated and now angry…. Forced Me to not only rent a SECOND U-Haul truck to come back, but also delayed Me three days later than my schedule. Did the ladies who work there Intentionally allowed me to repack my boxes, knowing that doing that was going to force me to miss the train? … Bad experience… from what seems like heartless employees.

Pretty town, mostly pretty clean and inviting, lots to do, clubs, shopping, upscale entertainment, sporting events, concerts, etc. If you can't find something to do here you ain't looking lol

Great experience. NOLA to San Antonio. Really enjoyed the trip. Glad to get it over after 15hrs, but scheduling, baggage etc was seamless.

Dec. 2 2022, I boarded AMTRAK in Tucson to jackson, Ms.. I was given an assigned seat. The seating area that I was in assigned needed repairs. The Amtrak staff was very unprofessional in taking care of the matter. I was told I would receive a different seat didn't happen. The quality of service is subpar at best. I will take my future travel plans elsewhere. Amtrak is a step above Greayhound at best. The customer service is poor to say the least. Future travelers pick an alternative mode of travel. Amtrak isn't the one.

My beautiful grandmother took Amtrak here in the early eighties direct to LA with the Sunset Limited. I always remember those times. Today after all these years Amtrak lives up to their name. Clean facilities, great staff!

Horrible experience and even worse professionalism. My brothers and I had a train (train 1) that was scheduled to depart at 2:45 am from San Antonio to El Paso, however, the train did not show until almost an hour later. Then, it took an additional 30+ minutes for them to even let us board (they have separate lines for scanning tickets and assigning your seats-instead of efficiently doing it all at once). Once we finally got on, we proceeded to wait in place at the station for OVER 4 HOURS. As we sat, NOTHING was being communicated to the passengers of the train in regards to the extended delay. To get even a slice of an answer, you had to go and seek someone out (only to get different answers each time). What was told as only 15 more minutes needed, became 30 more and so on. Once we finally got moving, not much was done to really remedy the massive delay. However, they were SURE to delay us even further, in the middle of the trip, by picking someone up and moving the train BACKWARDS to take this ONE person back a few miles from where we had just came ?. Nevermind the fact that their original passengers were already hours behind schedule, right? There was a clear disregard for the delay that was already imposed on the passengers. Just about everything that was communicated to us was gone back on. At one point, a train employee came over the intercom and misspoke, saying that there was complimentary alcohol available, only to then come back and scold the passengers and accuse us of not having listened, because people were asking about the free alcohol he unknowingly and mistakenly mentioned ?. After MANY delays (plenty by choice of the train) and hours of our patience being tested, obviously, frustration was starting to get high. When staff were questioned about REAL eta’s (not just what they thought we wanted to hear), staff would come across as dismissive and cold. Again, no regard or respect for the huge delays THEY caused to our travels/schedules. Needless to say, I will NEVER be riding an Amtrak train again. Public transit or not, the unnecessary amount of delays on this trip were inexcusable.

Some people feel they’re entitled to more than the rest of us. I don’t agree with other peoples comments. These people treat you with all the respect you need. They’re not gonna treat you special just because you think you are.

Tried to take the 7 o clock train from San Antonio to Dallas. Got there at 6:30 and ascertained I was in the correct place. 7 o clock rolls around and we are outside in the line in 30 degree weather. No boarding. No updates. 7:30 rolls around still no updates. I had to go in and check. Passengers are getting nervous about the train. No one is informing us why the train is late and why they are not boarding. Personnel are all very terse and abrupt when they are available at the window at all. They often disappear and I could not find anyone when I initially tried to check I was in the right place. As a first time train trip the lack of communication and the sneer with which the questions "am I in the right place? Where do I wait in line? When is the train boarding?" Was met with asked me on taking trains in general. Once in board (40 minutes late) the experience was great, but this particular station needs some serious personnel training in simple civility.
