Excellent food with interesting and unexpected flavors, textures and high quality produce. Cocktails were delicious as well (revisited G&T and Pisco sour were fantastic). Both servers and bartenders gave us great recommendations based on what they like about the menu. Service was great and attentive. Sitting at the bar was a cool experience ; the overall atmosphere of the place is really nice.
Ambience is a 9/10, food was a good 7.5/10 but service was more like 4.5/10. Three stars seems accurate. Went today for breakfast. Made a reservation the night before even though I knew it wouldn't be necessary, just to make the visit easier. Was initially given a very lackluster table so I said I would wait for outdoor seating. Mind you there were plenty of tables outdoor available and was told they were reserved (I had a reservation and in the notes asked for specific seating), my visit was over an hour and those seats were still empty before I left. After sitting at the bar waiting for a better table I was seated outside. I was not approached by a server for quite some time as I watched people who came after me not only get nicer seating but immediately served. Some tables even had more than one server come and go over their order and speak about the dishes, etc. Everything for me on the other hand, seemed like a bother and they did not make me feel welcome. Ate my food, took a walk around and left. Left an 18% tip although 5-6% or none would have reflected the experience I had. As far as the food, I had the omelet and some potatoes with coffee. Food was fine and good, priced a little high for what you're getting but you're really paying for the ambience of the location, so fine.
I have long admired Chef Jose Andreas's work in and outside the kitchen, so I was really excited to treat myself to a nice birthday dinner. And San Laurel did not disappoint. They took note of my dietary restrictions and addressed all my concern with genuine care. That's a huge deal for me. We sat outdoors, it was a but chilly but the view of Walt Disney concert hall and the patio heaters made the experience wonderful. (Take a jacket with you if you get cold like me). The gentleman assisting us tonight was very attentive and courteous. He offered some good tips and recommendations. They have a small but dedicated non-alcoholic drinks menu that made me very very happy. Finally, I too could enjoy a well crafted, complex beverage and not be relegated to a soda. Now on to the food. The tomato 'tartar' is phenomenal. It has such a deep, intense flavor, I almost couldn't believe it was a tomato. The uni & scallop appetizer was also great. We also got the grilled romaine which was good but not my favorite of the evening. For entrees we got the lamb (very flavorful) and the fish (lubina). The fish. Omg the fish. This has to be one of the best seafood dishes I've had in a while. The skin was perfectly crisp and everything was nicely seasoned. Plus it was gorgeous to behold. Will definitely be coming back here with friends or even another treat for myself ?
San Laurel is a beautiful restaurant serving fantastic food. Bring a fan of José Andrés and the incredible work he does in the world, I’m excited to support his restaurants. San Laurel did not disappoint. The service was friendly and genuine. The space is bright, spacious and contemporary. The food was extraordinarily flavorful and fresh. The concept is very approachable. Everything we ordered was fantastic, but some of the standouts were the Fennel Soup, Coca Idiazábal and Wild Mushrooms with Laurel Cream. I look forward to returning and exploring more of the menu. The Coca Idiazábal and Wild Mushrooms would be staple items I would order every time.
A very nice meal! The food and service were fantastic We started with the Tomato Tartare and the Lobster Salpicon. Both were delicate and nicely designed. The Tartare has more flavor than you'd expect and the Lobster dish was was light and sophisticated For entrees we had the Duck Breast and Lubina. The duck was cooked beautifully and the fat was rendered fully and gave great flavor. There was a slight sweetness to the bark that complimented the fat so nicely. The Lubina was gorgeous and everything on the dish came together perfectly. The mussel.saffron cream was such a nice base The Grapefruit in Textures dessert is so pretty! Loads of acid and sweet and cold. The Dehydrated Chocolate Mousse was also quite tasty. Completely different textures coming together with layers of sweet flavor The server and staff were the consummate pros....we never waited for anything and our server answered all of our questions with a sincere smile Our meal was great but I will say this was the least 'sexy' Jose Andre dining experience we've had. The food is top notch but not THE top. The dishes are beautiful but not as...avant-garde (maybe) as his other restaurants?
I was so excited to come here and experience the food and ambiance of this space. Unfortunately we were unable to sit outside which would have kicked the ambiance up a notch. Didn't realize the restaurant was in a hotel. Parking entrance was confusing and we ended up parking inside the self parking area. Get your ticket validated otherwise you're paying $38 versus $20. There are no signs if you find yourself in self parking but take the elevator to the 10th floor of the hotel. We ordered 6 dishes and for $400 worth of food it was mediocre. Flavors were flat considering its a Spanish style with California ingredients. Having just returned from Spain, I was looking forward to a more burst of flavor like they do in Spain. The most interesting and surprisingly tasteful dish is the Almond soup. Brooke was great! From desk staff was great but other then that... nothing was really a standout or memorable with the food itself.
We stayed overnight at the Conrad Los Angeles and dined at San Laurel for breakfast prior to check out. I wanted to share how great the food, service, and atmosphere was during our breakfast. Our server Max took care of all our needs, gave detailed suggestions, and helped us choose our selections. Max was very friendly, genuine, and not a moment went by where our coffee had a chance to get lukewarm or half full. We ordered their two-egg omelette w/ jamon serrano & mushroom ragu, and their toast montaditos w/ avocado. Prior to our breakfast coming out, we were provided a complimentary blueberry muffin while we awaited our meals. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious! Max checked up on us regularly to ensure everything we needed was provided. If you like your meals with a little bit of heat/spice, San Laurel has a homemade hot sauce which you should request. Pass on the Tabasco, Cholula, or Tapatio, you won't need it! Just request their special homemade hot sauce, and you'll be amazed how tasty it'll make your dish(es)... The best part of the San Laurel is they make the dining experience that much more special by treating our 4-legged family members of ours just as special as they treat us. A couple dined there as well and brought their dog with them, and they put out a nice comfy dog bed for him to lie down on while they ate breakfast! 5-stars for the San Laurel just for that! We also met with Jade, one of the San Laurel's managers and she made sure everything was to our liking that morning. If you're ever staying at the Conrad Los Angeles, don't overlook their fine restaurant located on the 10th floor of the building. We highly recommend it for breakfast, and assume it's just as good for lunch and dinner as well.
Nice service good taste but relatively small portion even for me a 100 lb person. The choice of is dish is so little. Hope variety of the menu. It is great the restaurant will give us some complimentary dish on the house!
