Avocado Salad

Avocado Salad is the salad to make when you want something easy, healthy and satisfying. Only 7 simple ingredients are required to make this tasty avocado salad.

“If a woman drowns her salad in mayonnaise and says she is doing clean eating, she does nothing but deceives herself.” James 1: 24, Clean Eating Bible.

We fell in love with avocado salad during our university days in Cameroon. It was a simple mixture of avocados, tomatoes, onions and mayonnaise that tasted more notable than it looked. We still remember the local restaurant which sold it and inspired us to make ours. We still remember how heavenly it felt as it went down our tummy with a bite of bread.
4 halves of avocados on a cutting board For some reason, avocados are locally called, “pear” in Cameroon although pear is a seperate fruit in other parts of the world. So we call this salad pear salad or purée in French (though it wasn’t pureed or anything like that). Years later, we still make this salad and weep for joy as it goes down our tummy. Avocado tomato cucumber salad in a bowl This month we decided to eat clean so instead of drowning our darling avocado salad in a killer mixture of mayonnaise, salt, vinegar and sugar, we simply dressed it in extra virgin olive oil, salt and a few shakes of ground black pepper. If you want to hold on to your mayo, that’s fine. Just make sure you eat in moderation.

Avocado, the Superfood

Avocado is a super food and you should have it regularly in your diet. Here is why:
  • It fights cancer.
  • It contains heart-healthy fats.
  • It aids digestion.
  • It regulates blood sugar levels.
  • It is anti-inflammatory.
  • It does much more!

Another noteworthy thing is that avocado is a fruit and not a vegetable. A salad like this takes a fruit that already tastes great and makes it exceptional.

This salad is crunchy with freshness from the tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers and creamy from the texture of the avocados. It is the perfect balance of crunchy and creamy.

It can be eaten on it’s own, together with whole wheat bread for breakfast or lunch or as a side dish to other meals.
