High-style restaurant for seasonal fare. Swanky restaurant in the Viceroy Hotel with a yacht-club feel, seasonal fare & cocktails.
I stayed at the Viceroy and had the pleasure of eating at Somerset two different times for breakfast and dinner. The food is delicious and comes out very quickly. The staff are very friendly and attentive. This is by far one of the best hotel restaurants I have ever been too. I would recommend eating here even if you are not staying at the hotel. It was all around five stars.
Considering the location of Somerset, I expected more. We made a brunch reservation and were seated quickly. We were offered the patio and the weather was perfect that day so we couldn’t pass it up. Sadly, the service was horrible (and not just for our table). I noticed that many other tables were as neglected as we were. Once we finally did get to put an order in, it took an hour for food to come out. Mind you, this is brunch service which should involve easier prep. In the end, the quality of service and long wait detracted from the experience. For brunch, I suggest avoiding. By the time we were actually eating, I didn’t think the food was worth it anymore.
After a long day of flying, my group of 6 walked down to Somerset for a late dinner. We had reservations and we're seated quickly near the back of the restaurant which had a great view of their impressive bar. The atmosphere was great, and our server was super friendly and good natured, even as we ordered a round of Malort. I had the steak, which was perfectly cooked and in an absolute killer sauce. A friend got the ravioli which was also delightful, not too heavy even with the rich sauce. For me however, the highlight of the meal was the dessert which we a chocolate mousse with a delicious cappuccino crumble and a sticky toffee banana pudding. While the portions weren't huge, it did allow for everyone to feel free to try everything - kind of like you would at tapas- and between that and our very good drinks, we had a great time.
Food was amazing but the service could've been better. We didn't have a waiter, they forgot to bring first the appetizers and no one answered our questions about the food. We felt like we were in casual bar rather than in a nice restaurant.
I tried their short rib shakshuka and it taste really good. Beef so tender and flavorful. croissant taste good too. For the sandwhich my honest opinion just so-so. Service is excellent and a nice ambiance.
Really liked this place for lunch — my biggest complaint was that the service was very slow but they have a $35 3 course tasting menu for lunch that includes an amazing avocado toast and a truly delicious burger with cheesecake. That’s an amazing deal for the quality of the food that you get and you can do the tasting menu even if others at your table aren’t. The atmosphere is gorgeous. I’d definitely return!
I've had this place bookmarked for a long time...I've even suggested it to many people traveling through Chicago.... We were very excited to eat brunch here before flying out that afternoon. We arrived for our 8am reservation and were informed that brunch didnt start till 9am..... we didn't know and were disappointed but we figured the breakfast would still be sufficient.... My partner had the somerset breakfast..... plain eggs, protein, toast, and potatoes. And a tea Okay. Cool... simple .... I got the short rib shakshuka. Lack luster and didnt look or taste fresh... the toast wasn't anything special..... The pain au chocolat was 6$ and one of the worst I've ever had. Ugly on the outside, Raw inside. And a weirdly sticky glaze ontop that was so unnecessary and just made our hands sticky. There was no server on the floor, just the hostess, who never came to check on us or make sure we had water or anything. The coffee was really good, La Colombe. Incredibly over priced ($60 ish) for diner level food. Would've happily paid way more than that for the bangin brunch I was expecting/ hoping for.
Enjoyed a breakfast/brunch on a winter Saturday morning. Interior decorations are nautical (British) themed and lovely. I had the short rib shakshuka which was spot on. Others in our party had the pancakes, fruit, omelet, and frittata all of which were delicious. Service was also great. Would visit again.
