French classics in an old-timey setting. Family-owned institution since 1927 serves tureens of soup & other French bistro staples.
Family owned and founded in 1927 it’s been serving LA diners for generations. I would classify it as a bistro style and is certainly more casual and less expensive than many of the other French restaurants close by. While dining I overheard that there are plans to buy this current location by a developer to add housing and would most likely happen this year or next but I am unsure if that is true or not. They have a giant parking lot to the side and behind of the restaurant so parking is never a problem. The restaurant interior (also the street facing exterior) could use some sprucing up though as it looks like it has been opened for as long as it is. I started off with the French Onion soup and it was honestly really good. It was done in the classic style and I would definitely order it again. For my entrée I chose the Short Ribs and they were pretty good. I liked how tender the meat was and the addition of pearl onions was a bonus. It was a very hearty meal and would be especially good for cold weather. Overall I would recommend it to any fan of French food or anyone looking for a nice casual meal. It is not an anniversary, birthday, or important work dinner location however. Really hope I am incorrect that they will be closing this location because I plan to visit again and even if they move I will certainly try that new location as well.
Even for a historical venue, they still have a delicious menu for any occasion. Be it for a date night, birthday, or just being in the mood for simple French Cuisine with a lovely setting ; it's your choice. I forgot the name of the lovely waitress but she made it more pleasant and enjoyable for a birthday celebration, and the small things goes along way
food gets 4/5, but overall 5/5! This place has the perfect old school feel to it. I feel like I walked straight into the 1960s… The experience is lovely with fresh bread and chatter around you. Although this probably isn’t the best french food i’ve had, I would totally come back here still. I recommend the french onion soup and the apple pear dessert (had a delicious caramel sauce with it). Definitely come support this place !!!
Overall, we had such a great time dining there! The food was delicious and the service was superb. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive (we forgot his name, but he wore a beret). We tried their escargot, which was to die for! We also had their lamb chop and steak and they were cooked perfectly!
Affordable French food and is still pretty good! If you wanna try French food and happen to stay in LA, this should be in your a must go list :)
I had the most pleasant evening at TAIX . Our waiter was thee most attentive and knowledgeable. Perfect atmosphere, so rich in history , beautiful decadent decor. I felt transported in this beautiful place. The food was just a savory and delectable. Everything was delicious, drinks , appetizers and entree . Highly recommend ?
The best escargot I’ve had since I was a kid in the 1970’s. The whole vibe is old fashioned but that’s a plus to me.
Classic french style in original retro setting. Bar or dining room same menu. Has been here for decades and a favorite spot. I love the classic Croque Monsieur. Have had dinner several times always very good.
