One of the hidden gems of Houston. These guys specialize in making the most delicious tortillas you'll have in Houston. They importe the corn from Mexico and use so many different corns to make different kinds of tortillas. They have brunch on Sundays to which if you can come early, you can get a seat. Their food is so tasty with different traditional options for you to choose, and you'd want to always come back to try all of them.

Corn lovers delight! Tatemó is a spectacular ode to maíz! Every course in the tasting menu is based around different types and preparations of corn and how it interacts with various other flavors. Having visited twice, we have experienced a similar tasting menu in terms of structure, albeit with different ingredients; highly enjoyable to taste the subtlety and difference in preparation. As a vegetarian, they also took good care of me and modified the various courses to suit my dietary needs. The low down: 1.The restaurant itself is tiny (4 tables), so book in advance as soon as you can 2. The restaurant is BYOB. Wine, beer, liquor or a combination is happily accepted. Tatemó will take the bottles, store them in appropriate climate surroundings and ensure that your glass is never empty 3. The entire meal runs about $150 per person including gratuity and tax(prepaid when booking) 4. They sell tortillas to go. Earth shattering stuff

Decent experience here. The place is really small since it’s built for tasting experiences and therefore when there are events that require no reservations the line to get in can get pretty long. Worth trying given the publicity and quality ingredients but not sure I would come back

First of all: WOW! What an incredible meal! I don’t know how this place doesn’t have more perfect reviews (though they only opened 6 months ago). I first found out about Tatemó via a pop up dinner they had with Neo (sushi spot in Houston). I didn’t actually attend the pop up but saw it pass by on social media. After doing a bit of online research, I found out that the chef here uses the nixtamalization process in making his tortillas (this is the traditional method of turning dry corn into masa). How much of a difference does this really make? I was really curious to try. At Tatemó, corn is the star in every dish (even the one with caviar). I’m always impressed when a chef can make a simple ingredient shine. Here, this is done marvellously. Emmanuel Chavez is a serious chef. You can tell he takes this project to heart. Nothing is left to chance. Everything is carefully thought out, from decoration to service to the meal progression. You can tell he is a perfectionist. The decoration of the restaurant is very simple and warm. The use of wood and small ornaments reminisce japanese aesthetics. Uncluttered and beautiful. There is no indication in front of the restaurant telling you where it is (which is typical in Japan). The style to me is also reminiscent of japanese ideology: perfection through simplicity. Top notch products are used to showcase high end Mexican cuisine the way it should be. I will hopefully be back to Tatemó every time I visit Houston. For me this place is the epitome of Mexican cuisine and one of the best places to eat at in Houston; period. Ps: it’s also a byob, with no corkage. So all things considered, the price of the meal is very fair considering they’re not making a markup on alcohol.

Excellent, creative dishes, helpful staff. Venue is quite small, almost industrial feel and music was too loud despite requests. That said, it is quite a fun and unique place.

The food. The experience. The attention to detail. Chef Emmanuel’s commitment to bringing food to the table that showcases Mexican heritage in such a thoughtful and creative way is simply amazing. I didn't know how versatile maize was until we ate here last night. We enjoyed the 7 course tasting - wished we could get seconds and thirds of the quesadilla, carne asada, and buenello- and will absolutely be back!!!

Great food and great ambience! The thing that stood out to me the most here was the great tasting menu featuring corn served in different ways. In addition, the music selection seemed to be very eclectic with many different genres. It really added to the ambience and overall vibe of this restaurant.
