American comfort food in a basic setting. A counter-service smorgasbord of American comfort food served in a casual, muraled space. Cash only.
SO delicious. Reliable taste and service. Would definitely recommend. I’m not a big eggs person but the one at Valois is so good especially with the hash browns. The hot chocolate is a little on the sweeter side. But overall the restaurant is very reasonably priced!
The staff is quick, the portion size is good. The food is decent. Great prices. Cash only! Note: there have been recent price hikes not yet reflected in the online menu (not to worry though, it’s still a great deal!) The price point is the key to success. Nothing there is gourmet and if you paid the going rate for this food, you might say meh, but since the price point is low, you know that you’re not going to get better for less. Hey, if it’s good enough for a president, it’s good enough for me.
If you’re looking for great breakfast food that’s fast and affordable, this is the spot. There’s nothing fancy about it, but the food is excellent and the staff is friendly. It’s cafeteria style so you pick up your tray and get your food through the line. Cash only but they have an ATM on site. I always get the Number 2 (two eggs, 2 sausage links, hashbrowns) with toast. It’s never steered me wrong. Definitely one of the best breakfast spots in the city. Highly recommend
Quick, cheap service. I got the two pancake meal that cost less than $10. Eggs and sausage was hot and fresh. Pancakes were a little crumbly. Overall great for the price.
Wonderful greasy-spoon in the Hyde Park area. Nothing that folks haven't already said and its famous patrons have made it a top rated must visit joint. We enjoyed Prez Obama's Favs #4, the hot chocolate, French toasts and the Turkey sandwich and all were fantastic. Prices have somehow stayed sane, even with the attention the place has gotten and parking is easily available on the street. Service is efficient and the tables cleared as fast as you can eat ?
Came in on Saturday for delicious diner brunch. It’s cash only so make sure to bring cash, otherwise theres an atm. There’s a line and it’s like cafeteria style with tray and self-serving station. You ordered what you want at the beginning and pay at the end. The menu is long and vast so I ordered from the Obama’s favorite menu and got steak omelette + hash browns (absolutely delicious). I also grab rice pudding and key lime pie for dessert but they are not my favorite (not recommend). Food came up right away, simple, quick, affordable and delicious. Its crowded, hectic, and fast moving but absolutely worth it!
I ate breakfast at Valois on Sunday morning, June 19th, 2022. The large menu offers a sizable selection of breakfast options. I was hungry. I ordered pancakes with a generous helping of blueberries on the side, oatmeal which came with brown sugar and a small portion of raisins on the side, hash browns, orange juice, and water. A sign on the outside of the restaurant says you can "see your food." Indeed, I saw the person who took my order scoop my oatmeal from a huge pot into a bowl, stir my hash browns on the grill then plop a generous portion on a plate, and meanwhile I watched another person pour pancake batter on a grill and prepare my pancakes. I paid a third person working as cashier for my food at the counter, and the food and juice were ready quickly, almost as soon as I paid for them it seemed. After I took my seat, a waitress brought two glasses of ice water. I'm a big water drinker and appreciated getting two glasses. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. I planned to visit the Museum of Science and Industry and took the #6 Jackson Park Express bus from downtown south to 53rd street to enjoy breakfast at Valois before walking perhaps five blocks from the restaurant to the museum. I'm not sure about the calorie count or fat content. But their comfort food is tasty. The day I ate there perhaps about 8 a.m., most of the other patrons seemed to be persons from the neighborhood. But my guess is that Valois attracts a diverse clientele. It offers a tasty breakfast at a reasonable price with quick service and a wide variety of selections. I recommend it and hope to eat there again on a future Chicago trip.
Ordered a steak and omlet with hash browns as well as 2 pancakes and bacon for my son. As you can tell from the picture omlet was overcooked, steak was dry as well as the hash browns, quite bland actually. I don't know why this gets 4 stars, only thing good about this place was the coffee And it cost 40 dollars for my son and i. So not really all that cheap either. The only reason it became famous was Obama went there, maybe the quality went down after they got famous, anyhow nothing special about this place, bland food. By the way IT'S CASH ONLY and you have to use their ATM inside the ShOP which CHARGES you 3 DOLLARs , which goes into their pocket again, so ADD another 3 DOLLARS to your ENTIRE CHECK!!!!!!!!!
