I've heard good words about Veselka and wanted to try it on our trip to NY. Veselka Essex is small featureless space in the basement of Essex Market staffed by people who couldn't care less. And food... very little to do with Ukrainian food. They messed up our order (instead of potato pancake combo with meat we got the so called beef Stroganoff which is NOT pasta covered with shredded meat in starch). They refused to replace without $5 extra. I have never been at Veselka proper, but these guys tarnish their brand.

The food as at the original location is great. I like knowing that there is an even more accessible place to enjoy their meals.

The food is good, and seems the same as a main restaurant at 2d ave. But the general experience is not the same. I love the main location on 2d ave, but this one is made me sad(( the food was served in a plastic tableware... So I would prefer to visit main location instead of this one.

Overpriced, undercooked, limp, stale, bereft of love. The 3 dollar coke helped me swallow the latke but not the experience

Good pierogis, but in case of, for potato ones it would be great if you mention that there are mushrooms inside :)
