Why I Started Blogging: Lessons, Growth, and Tips for New Writers

Today I celebrate my birthday, and I am deeply grateful for the gift of life — for the chance to thrive instead of merely survive. This blog has given me purpose and has truly made me feel alive.

I never imagined, even in my wildest dreams, that I would one day have a blog called “Precious Core.” But three years ago, during a time of prayer, I felt a strong prompting to write. I followed that calling, researched how to start a blog, and began the journey.

Naming the blog felt natural rather than forced. The name Precious Core simply came to me, and I embraced it. It captured what I wanted this space to represent: the heart of who I am.

Why I Blog

I launched Precious Core and began to write. Over the years I’ve shared love and marriage tips, real-life stories, recipes, and many other reflections. I also started a YouTube channel where cooking on camera has become a joyful creative outlet. Filming recipes and sharing the process is something I genuinely love.

As the blog grew, readers showed strong interest in the recipes I publish. I felt pressure to niche down and become a dedicated food blog, since many food bloggers publish recipe after recipe. While recipes are a beloved part of this site, Precious Core has never been only about food. I write about the things that matter to me: recipes, stories, faith, relationships, and life lessons.

I seriously considered removing non-recipe posts to fit into a specific category, but I couldn’t do it. This blog began as a place to write — to speak from my heart. It’s where my thoughts, experiences, and creativity converge.

This space is where my pen speaks. I share real-life stories, my love for cooking, reflections on faith, and practical tips. It’s my outlet and my contribution to others. It is, in every sense, my core — the essence of who I am and why I am here now.

Over time I’ve grown into the meaning of Precious Core. The name reflects my purpose and the authentic center of my life.

My faith is central to everything I do. I am a child of God, and loving Jesus is the most important part of my life. Being transformed by God has been the most profound experience I’ve had, and I can’t help but share that transformation with readers.

Writing is essential to me — it’s like breathing. Whether I’m sharing raw emotions, funny memories, or thoughts on current events, I need to write. It sustains me and connects me to others.

I once believed that earning income from this blog would bring complete fulfillment. While financial reward is wonderful, it isn’t what truly satisfies me. What brings lasting fulfillment are the messages from readers who tell me how this blog has impacted them — a recipe they tried, a story that made them laugh, a tip that strengthened a marriage, or a prayer that comforted them. Those responses nourish my soul in ways money cannot.

As long as I can, I will keep writing, cooking, sharing, encouraging, and connecting with friends around the world who visit this space. I am grateful to live out this calling, and when challenges arise I remind myself that I am in the right place at the right time.

Thank you for being here with me on this journey. I’m excited for what the future holds. With love and gratitude.
