2016 is here, and what a change a year can bring. At the same point last year I was tense, exhausted and very eager for my overdue baby to arrive. Well-meaning friends and family kept asking if the baby had “popped” yet, which only added to my impatience. That was a different season of life; today I am very grateful and joyful.
My daughter has just turned one. She is our little sunshine—so full of laughter, warmth and curiosity. I thank God for blessing our family beyond what I imagined. Her older sisters adore her and are constantly vying for her attention. The little girl you see above is our shining star.
People often joke that singers begin in the womb. In our case, our youngest truly showed a love for music from an early age. She began “singing” when she was only a few months old and often soothes herself with melodies. She already has favorite songs that calm her and stop her tears. It reminds me of my eldest, who loved to dance as a baby and delighted everyone with energetic moves. Our third child seems destined to be a little songbird. As for the middle child, I’ve yet to single out a distinct talent—she seems happiest around the kitchen and enjoys helping with cooking.
I’m deeply grateful for these children, the arrows of my life. My hope for this year is that we all take bold, meaningful steps forward. I look forward to spending more time with them—teaching, guiding and watching them grow is one of life’s greatest rewards.
There are more stories I’m excited to share this year. I hope you’ll follow along as I post more features on the blog.
Recently in church we were reminded that every decision matters because actions have consequences. A simple illustration stuck with me: if you don’t intend to go to a certain town, but you board a vehicle headed there, you will inevitably arrive. The point is clear—choose your direction intentionally, because each choice sets a path.
That’s what’s new with me. What’s new with you?
Wishing you a blessed and joyful new year!
