Cameroonian Birthday Party Foods Vlog: Traditional Dishes & Celebration

It was party time! I attended a Cameroonian celebration and recorded my experience to share a taste of Cameroonian food and a typical party menu. These gatherings usually revolve around eating, drinking, talking, and sometimes dancing. For me, it’s always about the food.

Cameroonian Food at a Birthday Party

I actually managed to vlog again — “managed” because I nearly gave up on recording this one. I asked the host for permission to film at her niece’s birthday, and she kindly agreed.

I arrived later than planned due to blog errands and a few other tasks (including doing my makeup — which, honestly, takes me forever). I don’t do the heavy contouring trends; the one time I tried highlighting I ended up looking like I’d been “lowlighted,” so I stopped.

My late arrival almost stopped me from filming, but after I settled in and ate, I found my rhythm and started vlogging. Food really is motivating!

My husband, whom I jokingly call “Husband of the ministry Mr. N,” shot some of the clips, and you can hear him chiming in with comments in Pidgin English. Overall, it was a lot of fun.

I’ll admit I felt a little shy speaking into the camera with so many familiar faces around. When I filmed at the farmer’s market, it felt easier because most people were strangers. Surrounded by fellow Cameroonians, I felt more self-conscious — but I pushed through.

I spoke to the camera and walked around to capture the atmosphere. I hope these snippets give non-Cameroonian readers a genuine feel for Cameroonian culture and what a typical party looks like.

Every Cameroonian dish shown in the footage has a recipe on this blog and on my YouTube channel. Use the search bar on the site to find any recipe that catches your eye.

Now, without further ado, enjoy the video.
