Here’s What’s New: Top Updates You Need to Know

Hello everyone! Last week was full of highs and lows — illness, small victories and joyful milestones. I’ll start with the illness and then share the happier news.

My whole family caught a stomach bug

A friend visited us while her child was ill. The child had diarrhea and, according to his mother, had been vomiting all night. Two days after their visit, the same symptoms began in my household. The sequence started with my second daughter, then the baby, then my eldest, then Mr. N, and finally me. At first I wondered if something supernatural was going on because I’d never seen anything like it, but after checking into it we discovered it was most likely the stomach flu — a highly contagious virus that probably spread from our visitor. Being confined at home while everyone was unwell was difficult, but we recovered with rest and care.

I’ve been planning to get a professional camera for food photography for a while, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that it happened so soon. It feels like a dream — I find myself carrying it around with a big smile, excited and a little nervous about learning all its features. I’ve been practicing poses and framing shots, feeling like someone from a small village who’s just seen a car for the first time — full of wonder and delight!

The model I chose is the Canon EOS Rebel T5 Digital SLR Camera. It came with two lenses, and the numbers and labels on them are a little overwhelming at first. If you’re not familiar with lenses and camera jargon, I understand — I’m still learning too. My smartphone camera served me well when I started blogging, but I felt it was time to upgrade to equipment that can help my food photography and blogging grow. I’m grateful for this new tool and excited to learn how to use it well for the kitchen projects I love.

End of the school year celebrations

My eldest finished the academic year strong — praise the Lord! This year she attended two different programs: a Christian preschool and the Head Start program. She went to one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. At the start of the year I worried about juggling both, but we adapted and made it work through the seasons. I’m thankful for her progress and for the support that helped us get through the busy days.

I’m deeply grateful to BellaNaija for featuring my Challah Bread recipe. It’s an honor to share my love of cooking with a larger audience, and this feature helps the kitchen ministry continue to grow. Moments like these are encouraging reminders that following a passion can lead to meaningful opportunities.

That’s a summary of last week’s events — the ups, the downs, and the small victories. How was your week?
