Trust God and Find Peace: How Faith Helps in Tough Times

As I sat at my dining table, trying to sort through tasks for the following day, my heart began to race.

There was so much to do in the next 24 hours—more than could reasonably be completed in that time. I kept wondering how any of it would get done.

Fear settled in, and I had to remind myself to trust God. I spoke it aloud:

“Trust God, everything will be fine. Trust God, everything will be fine.”

Overwhelm can pull us down, bringing along its companions—hopelessness and anxiety.

When our plans feel inadequate and we don’t know the way forward, the best response is to trust God.

Even when we believe we have everything under control, we still need to trust God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

    and he will make your paths straight.[a]

Proverbs 3:5-6, NLT

If you are feeling overwhelmed today, remember that you can trust God. He remains trustworthy.

Here are three practical steps to help you trust God and find peace right now:

1. Study the Word. Find a Scripture that speaks into your situation and read it aloud repeatedly. For me, Isaiah 43:19 is a steady reminder that God makes a way in the wilderness.

2. Pray. Bring your burdens, fears, and plans to God in prayer. Speak to Him as you would to a close friend—honestly and openly. Prayer changes our hearts and aligns us with His perspective.

3. Trust God. To trust means to believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone. Trust that God is reliable enough to carry you through. Trust that He can make a way where the situation looks impossible.

After saying aloud that I trusted God, I picked up a pen and listed everything waiting to be done, assigning each task to specific hours of the day.

As I wrote, I felt lighter and clearer. Most importantly, I experienced God’s peace.

We can trust God in ordinary, everyday moments. He loves us and invites us to place our trust in Him.

As you move through this week, my prayer for you is that you will trust God in small matters and in big ones—while washing dishes, cleaning, doing your job, parenting, and interacting with others. Keep trusting God to provide strength, wisdom, and guidance.

Cast your burden on the Lord,

And He shall sustain you;

He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22, NKJV
