I’m excited to share my very first vlog—drum roll, please! I’ve wanted to show you how I shop for a long time, and I finally stopped procrastinating and filmed it. If you follow this blog, you know how much I love the farmer’s market. It feels like home, and I even enjoy haggling a little.
The Saint Paul farmer’s market here in Minnesota offers vegetables you might not expect to find in the U.S. You can get items like garden egg (called “Njakatu” in Cameroon), garden huckleberry (Njama Njama), pumpkin leaves, and a wide variety of fresh herbs.
They also sell a type of fresh corn that reminds me of the firmer corn found in Africa—quite different from the softer American sweet corn—and I absolutely love it.
Sometimes the market has freshly harvested groundnuts (peanuts). They weren’t ready when I made this vlog, so they don’t appear in the video, but if we get groundnuts later I’ll likely make another vlog to share that experience.
I enjoyed the vlogging process, though I felt a bit shy. Shopping and talking into a camera at the market felt unusual, but it was fun and rewarding.

My sweetheart, Mr. N, filmed the vlog. I still laugh about saying “our ministries don’t match” when he wanted to marry me. He’s been incredibly supportive of everything I do and did a wonderful job capturing the day—shopping with the girls and all the lively moments. It was a fun first-time experience. An ice cream vendor even appeared so the girls could cool off from the hot sun. Watch the vlog to see how it all unfolded.
I hope you enjoy the video. If you’d like to see more vlogs from me, please let me know in the comments below.
