In March this year my family and I traveled from Southern California to Nashville, Tennessee. It was my first visit to a Southern state. We spent eight days exploring the city, breathing different air, and sampling a variety of foods — and we loved every minute of it.
Hello friends! If you’ve followed this blog, you know I usually post recipes, so it’s a treat to share a travel story. The girls were thrilled about the trip — and honestly, I was just as excited as they were.
We left SoCal in the spring and arrived in Nashville ready to explore. The city welcomed us with warm hospitality, lively music, and great food.

Watch A Video of Our First Time In Nashville
The video below captures our departure from Southern California and our arrival in Nashville — our first impressions and early moments exploring the city.
Food In Nashville
I’ve always wanted to visit the South and try the regional cuisine. Nashville did not disappoint. I tried classic Nashville Hot Chicken and sampled favorites from restaurants like Biscuit Love and Five Daughters Bakery.
Many popular spots had long lines, so I used online ordering more than once — with five kids, including a baby, waiting in line wasn’t an option. Online ordering made it easy to enjoy local specialties without the hassle.
My favorites were the creamy grits from Biscuit Love and the strawberry doughnuts from Five Daughters Bakery. We also explored the Nashville Farmers’ Market and were pleasantly surprised to find a grocery stall carrying African ingredients. I bought red snapper, plantains, and a few other items, then cooked a whole pan-fried fish with fried plantains and avocado salsa back in our hotel room.
One highlight was that our hotel room included a well-equipped kitchenette. It was fun to cook small meals while we were away. I even made fried chicken wings in the tiny kitchen — they turned out delicious, though I regret not taking photos!
The hotel provided a complimentary breakfast, which might have been the best we’ve encountered on a trip: waffles, bagels, omelettes, toast, oatmeal, sausages, and more. You can see the breakfast and some cooking clips in the videos embedded here.
Some Highlights Of Our Trip
We took a city tour with Old Town Trolleys, and our guide had a great sense of humor that made the ride fun and informative. The people in Nashville were incredibly friendly; hotel staff and locals alike greeted us warmly and made the visit feel relaxed and welcoming.
Broadway was one of the happiest streets I’ve ever seen — live bands playing in bars, crowds enjoying the music, party buses rolling by with people dancing and cheering. The nickname Music City fits perfectly.
We walked the Music Walk of Fame next to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The line to enter the Country Music Hall of Fame was long when we arrived, so we skipped it, but we enjoyed the atmosphere and sights around the area.
Instead, we visited the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, which offered interactive exhibits where the kids could try instruments and make music. It was a fun, hands-on experience for the whole family.
