Easy pancake recipe for kids

A recipe kids can help make is always a win. My children adore these pancakes and love being involved in every step.

My middle daughter was so excited she suggested we spend a homeschool session cooking together because she wanted to make more pancakes with me.

What made the whole experience extra fun were the pancake molds from my friends at Whiskware®.

We used the Pancake Art Kit, which includes a batter mixing bottle (no messy bowl needed) and two shapes: a dinosaur and a pancake man that my girls call the “gingerbread man.”

The Pancake Art Kit paired with this recipe makes cooking time a fun bonding moment and a tasty meal. Life is too short for boring pancakes—make them playful and memorable.

I’m also giving away a Whiskware Pancake Art Kit, an extra batter mixer, and a unicorn pancake shaper. See the giveaway details at the end of the post.

How do You Make Pancakes for Kids?

I keep these pancakes simple and familiar: flour, milk, eggs, butter, sugar, salt, baking powder, and vanilla extract for flavor.

If you prefer a lighter version, swap butter for a neutral oil, use honey instead of sugar, or choose whole wheat flour in place of all-purpose.

One tip I follow: use more eggs and less baking powder. Too much baking powder can leave a bitter aftertaste, while extra eggs add structure, nutrition, and a fluffy texture.

Fun Pancake Recipe for Kids Step-By-Step

1. Combine milk, eggs, vanilla extract, melted butter, salt, and sugar in a batter mixing bottle. Shake until combined. A few small lumps are fine.

2. Heat a skillet or griddle on low-medium heat. Lightly oil a pancake mold and place it on the pan. Pour batter into the mold to fill the shape.

3. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, about 2–3 minutes. Remove the mold and flip the pancake with a spatula. Cook another 1–2 minutes until golden.

There you have it—fun pancakes in three easy steps. Serve warm with favorite toppings. I like butter, maple syrup, and chopped pineapple; blueberries or chocolate-hazelnut spread are also big hits with my kids.

Notes and Tips for the Perfect Pancake

1. This batter works especially well with pancake molds. If you pour it without a mold, it will be a thinner batter suitable for regular pancakes but pour more carefully.

2. When using a Whiskware Batter Mixer, add wet ingredients first, then the dry. This helps prevent flour clumps.

3. Don’t overmix. Stir or shake until combined; a few lumps are okay.

4. If you use a cast-iron skillet, heat it gently and cook on low so the pancakes don’t brown too quickly.
