Could the Sarti Spritz be the next must-try spritz for warm weather entertaining? If you enjoy light, sparkling cocktails with a tropical fruit flavour, this simple drink is a great one to add to your aperitivo list.

Sarti Rosa, pronounced sar-tee ro-sa, is an Italian aperitivo liqueur from Bologna with origins dating back to 1885. Although it is not as widely known as Aperol or Campari, it has a distinctive character that makes it stand out in a spritz. Its beautiful pink colour instantly makes the drink look fresh and summery, while its flavour is softer and fruitier than many classic bitter aperitivi.

The liqueur is made with Sicilian blood orange, mango and passion fruit. In this Sarti Spritz, the passion fruit flavour comes through strongly, giving the cocktail a juicy, tropical note. It may remind some people of Passoa liqueur, but with an Italian aperitivo feel. Unlike an Aperol Spritz or a Campari cocktail, this drink is not bitter. That makes it a good choice for anyone who likes the idea of a spritz but prefers something sweeter, smoother and more fruit-forward.

The classic spritz formula is easy to remember: sparkling wine, aperitivo and a little soda. For this version, Prosecco adds bubbles and a crisp finish, Sarti Rosa brings colour and flavour, and soda water lightens the drink so it stays refreshing. Serve it over plenty of ice in a large wine glass and finish with a wedge of lime. Blood orange or grapefruit also work well as a garnish if you want to echo the citrus notes in the liqueur.

This Sarti Spritz is ideal for summer gatherings, garden drinks, weekends with friends or a relaxed Italian-style aperitivo before dinner. You do not need any special equipment, and the cocktail takes just a few minutes to prepare. See the full recipe below, along with a few favourite antipasti ideas to serve alongside it.
