Citrus and Avocado Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing

I took my love of avocados a step further with this Citrus Salad with Avocado. It celebrates the bright, refreshing flavors of seasonal citrus—light, fruity, and perfectly balanced. I added avocado for a cool, creamy contrast that complements the tartness of the citrus. If you love avocados, this one’s for you.

With abundant citrus at the market this season, I couldn’t resist making a salad that mixes grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, and pomelo. Eating fruit in season makes a big difference—the flavors are brighter and fresher.

If you haven’t tried pomelo before, it’s the largest citrus fruit and is often called Chinese grapefruit. I found one at my local store, but feel free to substitute extra grapefruit if pomelo isn’t available.

To dress the salad I made a simple Honey Citrus Dressing—just fresh lemon juice, lime juice, and honey. It’s bright, slightly sweet, and ties the whole salad together.

I combined the dressing ingredients in my Whiskware Dressing Shaker and shook until smooth. The resulting golden dressing is delicious drizzled over any fruit salad.

The Whiskware Dressing Shaker makes dressing prep effortless. For vinaigrettes or creamy dressings, simply add the ingredients to the bottle and shake. The pour spout also makes it easy to drizzle the dressing evenly over the salad.

Citrus Salad Ingredients

1. Oranges: I used navel oranges for their sweetness. For more color, substitute one with a blood orange.

2. Tangerines: Honey tangerines are a favorite for their natural sweetness.

3. Grapefruit: I prefer the red variety for extra vibrancy.

4. Pomelo: Optional—use extra grapefruit if you can’t find pomelo.

5. Avocado: Adds creamy texture and balances the citrus. Omit if you prefer.

6. Mint leaves: Fresh mint adds a cool, aromatic note that lifts the salad.

Ingredients

Citrus Salad

  • 2 navel oranges
  • 2 honey tangerines
  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 pomelo substitute with more grapefruit
  • 1 large avocado or 2 small avocados
  • 2 sprigs mint

Honey Citrus Dressing

  • Juice of one lime
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 1/4 cup honey

Instructions

Make the honey citrus dressing

  • Place lime and lemon juice into the Whiskware Dressing Shaker, add the honey, and shake well to combine.

Make the Citrus Salad with Avocado

  • Peel the citrus fruits, removing all of the white pith.
  • Slice the fruits into rounds, remove any seeds, then cut into wedges.
  • Arrange the fruit on a platter. Peel and slice the avocado into roughly 1-inch slices and add to the fruit.
  • Finely chop the mint and sprinkle over the salad. Drizzle the dressing, toss gently, and serve.

Notes

1. To help honey pour easily from the measuring cup, wipe the inside with a little oil first so the honey slides out.

2. Remove seeds carefully when slicing citrus—some can hide in the segments.

3. If you aren’t serving immediately, sprinkle lime juice over the avocado to slow browning.

Make-Ahead Tip: Cut citrus and store in an airtight container in the fridge the night before. Mix and refrigerate the dressing. Right before serving, add the chopped avocado and mint, pour the dressing over, toss, and serve.
