Here’s What’s Up: 10 Things You Need to Know

1. Cakes! Last week my Facebook food group hosted a cakes challenge where members shared photos of the cakes they baked at home. I also published a video on how to make the perfect plain cake and a blog post featuring 10 cake recipes. Baking cakes has become a familiar pastime for me — I’ve baked so many over the years that I can confidently share tips, flavors and techniques that work well at home.

2. My Facebook page is growing steadily. At the time I wrote this I was approaching 5,000 likes — and I’m grateful to everyone who has supported the page. Your likes, comments and shares mean a lot and help the page reach others who enjoy family-friendly recipes and kitchen tips.

3. Precious Kitchen on YouTube recently passed 800 subscribers, and I’m humbled by the growth. Creating videos and seeing people respond to the food and ideas I share is such a rewarding experience. There’s something special about doing what you love and connecting with people through recipes, cooking demonstrations and my personal style — even the quirky bits that make content feel more human.

4. Christmas is only six days away. Last year I had a clear plan for the holiday, but this year I find myself undecided and hoping for guidance. The season always brings a mix of excitement and reflection, and I’m trying to choose how best to spend the day — whether quietly with family, hosting a meal, or simply resting and enjoying the atmosphere.

5. Snow. It’s everywhere. After returning from church on Sunday morning, I honestly felt like staying home until the snow and the biting cold finally disappear. Travelling in this weather has been a challenge — roads are slippery and getting out is often more trouble than it’s worth. For now I’m prioritizing warmth and safety.

6. New hairdo. After a long stretch of managing life with my natural hair, wigs and everything in between, I finally got my hair done on Saturday. I chose crochet braids and I’m excited to show the new look in my next YouTube video. Changing your hairstyle can feel refreshing, and I’m enjoying the lift it gives my daily routine.

7. First flat tire. On the way back from getting my hair done I experienced my very first flat tire — alone, in the cold, on a snowy and slippery road. It was a stressful, frustrating experience and I ended up in tears. It was one of those moments that remind you how quickly plans can change and how important it is to stay calm and get help when you need it.

8. My granddaughters. This chapter of life is delightful and serious in its own way. Their little mommies, who are my daughters, are now shopping for new clothes, beds and feeding accessories. Watching the next generation grow brings a mix of joy and practical needs — and I’m happy to help where I can.

9. A new book for moms. I recently started reading Being Mom by Dr. Nicoline Ambe and the book is already uplifting. It focuses on raising children without regrets and offers thoughtful, practical guidance for parenting with intention. I plan to read it thoroughly and take in every lesson I can, because resources that support parents are invaluable.

10. “Manger Things” series at church. We wrapped up a sermon series called “Manger Things” that focused on the events surrounding Jesus’ birth. The stories are astonishing when you pause to consider them: a virgin conceiving, shepherds encountering an angel, and a host of angels singing in the heavens. These are powerful, awe-inspiring moments that invite us to reflect on wonder and divine mystery. I pray we never lose that sense of astonishment when we think about God’s greatness.

He can bypass logic to heal you. He can bypass logic to make you whole. He can bypass logic to provide for your needs. God does not change; He still works miracles, and He can do that for you.

God bless you!
